Brenda Freed Biography
Brenda Freed is a singer songwriter with a total of 10 releases: one Brenda Freed cassette (remember those?) and 3 CDs, 3 CDs with her 2005 Austin Music Award winning group Texas Hot Flash, and 3 CDs with Him & Her. Since 1991, when a 9,000-mile bicycle tour (guitar in tow) ended at the Kerrville Folk Festival, Brenda has toured the U.S., England and Ireland. She has opened for the Austin Lounge Lizards, Sara Hickman, Chuck Pyle, Kimmie Rhodes, Vance Gilbert and Michael Smith (to name a few), and Texas Hot Flash opened for the Charlie Daniels Band. Brenda has sung harmony vocals on albums by a number of singer songwriters including Jack Motley, Russell Clepper, Steve Brooks and a posthumous release of Blaze Foley’s music. Other than the occasional solo showcase, Brenda currently performs with Texas Hot Flash, who reunited in 2018, and Him & Her, a duo with her husband, Michael D’Eath. Him & Her devotes their creative energies to performing, recording, songwriting, musical arrangement, and teaching, as well as having a good time with live audiences whether playing a club, house concert, small theater or festival.
Music has been Brenda’s life. She has a Master’s Degree in Music Education and Music Therapy. She taught K-12 music and pioneered the Music Therapy program at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. When not performing, Brenda teaches guitar, piano, voice & ukulele via Skype, in her Blanco, TX studio, and at Effortless Singing and Effortless Harmony Singing workshops at festivals and conferences. She has developed a line of internationally distributed Effortless Music Instruction products including 2 double CD vocal instruction products and a beginning piano course available here. Brenda enjoys serving her community. She has done so by providing music therapy activities for a non-profit that serves youth and by creating the Young Artist Performance Incubator (YAPI), an open mic for age 18 and under. For more information on these and Brenda’s other music-related businesses and activities, see her website.
